What this site is

This is the marketing and pre-launch site for Apelles, a video editor built on top of a vendored fork of RapidRAW. There is no application to download from this site yet — the only thing it does is describe the product and let you leave an email address to hear about it when there is a build worth installing.

The beta signup is a request, not a guarantee

Submitting the form means you have asked to be told when a beta build exists. It does not reserve you a place in any program, does not create an account, and does not obligate us to contact you by any date or at all if the project changes direction. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what happens to the address you give us.

The software's own licence

Apelles itself — the application, once it exists as a build — is free software under the AGPL-3.0 licence, the same licence its vendored engine (RapidRAW) ships under. These website terms govern this site; they do not modify or override the AGPL-3.0 licence that governs the software itself. Read the licence directly at gnu.org for what it actually permits and requires.

No warranty, pre-release

Everything on this site describes software that is pre-release. Where the AGPL-3.0 licence already disclaims warranty for the software itself, that disclaimer stands; separately, the content of this website (the copy, the claims about what is shipped) is provided as accurately as we can make it at the time of writing, but the project is actively changing and a claim here can become stale before this page is next updated.

What you can do with this site's own content

The words and design of this website are not open-source in the way the application is — please don't reproduce this site's own copy or design elsewhere as though it were yours. The application's own source code is separately licensed under AGPL-3.0 as described above, and that licence, not these terms, governs your rights to that code.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, this page changes in the same commit as whatever prompted it — that is a standing rule for this whole codebase (see this repo's own CLAUDE.md), not a promise made separately from the code.

Governing law is deliberately left blank here. A real terms-of-use document names the jurisdiction and law that governs it, which depends on where the business behind this site is actually domiciled — a fact this page cannot invent. Fill that in (and have the whole page reviewed by a lawyer) before relying on it for a real public launch; this page is a good-faith draft sized to what the site currently does, not a substitute for legal advice.
